About Us

Assault Prevention helps individuals, groups, and organizations proactively plan for successful mitigation of unexpected violence and emergencies, resulting in a sense of control to their daily lives. Many of our clients are determined to be proactive about protecting those around them; others have recognized their vulnerability, and yet others have experienced violence on some level.

Our varied services include individual and group consultation, as well as certified instruction, training and coursework in the following areas:

  • Personal Safety
  • Self- Defense/Awareness
  • Basic Handgun Safety
  • Executive and High Profile
  • Security Services
  • Validated Vulnerability Assessments of Physical Facilities, Intellectual Property, and Key Personnel
  • Violence Prediction
  • Presentation of Local, National, and Global Trend Research and Analysis.

Our highly-trained staff tailors each assessment or training session to the individual’s or group’s needs, ensuring that they’re educated and empowered in the most relevant approach.

The Assault Prevention team includes a wide range of experts who have experience dealing with real-life violence. Their professional careers span the military, law enforcement, corrections, private security, and executive protection. Our team has studied extensively and received certifications in use of force, firearms, vulnerability assessment, threat assessment, forensic psychology, behavioral characteristics, interpersonal communications, emergency planning and preparedness, instructional theory, and executive protection.

We believe in and adhere to the following foundational principles:

  • We operate on the principles of character, integrity, respect, and honesty.
  • Wholeness depends on physical, spiritual, and emotional wellness. Effective training and professional services recognize these aspects in addition to physical techniques and motor skills.
  • Training and professional services are part of a larger process whereby a community of people grows in their ability to solve their own problems and take control of their lives. This process is just as important as achieving the goals because it brings teamwork and effectiveness to a new level.
  • Training and professional services include principles that may be carried on by clients using their own resources. Training is holistic and integrated.
  • Presentations are made within the context and life circumstances of the client’s surroundings and associations. For instance, the police officer has a different environment than the security officer, and the executive protection specialist has a different context than the single mother. Churches represent yet another unique setting, differing from corporations. Families have concerns that vary greatly from that of the single male. Each individual or group has his or her own concerns, and each community has its own customs and language. We will speak the client’s language.
  • Instructors and assessors who understand these principles will be the cornerstone of development. In turn, the community, based on the characteristics of the group being taught, should select internal leaders that are faithful, available, and teachable. These leaders carry on with the training after our work is complete.
  • For real, sustainable development to occur there must be a vision of the community, group, or individuals being taught. We will help you identify that if it is not already in place.
  • The completed work we do must transform lives to be sustainable. Sitting through a course is not adequate since lecture can be the least effective method of education. Therefore, the material presented will consider the differences in people and their learning styles. Instruction and assessments will include multiple formats and be experiential.

Client Testimonials

“I attended a session at the conference entitled ‘Predicting Violence’ facilitated by a professor from one of our fine universities. I also attended your session. Your presentation on violence blew hers out of the water. Your presentation was very pragmatic, interactive, broad-based and very well presented. Your were able to hook your audience, keep them engaged, and I have no doubt that each attendee left with a keener sense of trusting their gut, identifying indicators of violence and having a few responses ready when they encounter violence. You should be proud of your training and the message you are getting out to people. This session was as good as any I have attended over the years. Way to go!” Tom B. – Assistant Superintendent, Community Corrections

“The evaluations relative to your safety training were positive, and your knowledge of the topic was evident. I thought that the information which you provided documenting the hazards and need, along with supporting legislation was instructive. Personally, I was surprised at the obvious effectiveness of those elementary tactics we practiced. I also appreciate your efforts to tailor your training to the extent possible to accommodate our needs, volume and arrangements.” Andy D. – Director, Special Supervision, Minnesota Department of Corrections

“Terry Hipp and Don Moe recently trained twenty persons in preparation for the beginning of the Minneapolis Anti-Violence Initiative. They prepared their material well prior to the event, they made excellent presentations and demonstrations; they followed through with proficiency evaluations during the entire course length, which was approximately sixteen hours in duration. Were it not for them being available, we may have not been able to launch this effort with the same degree of confidence and security that I feel we enjoy.” Jim R. – Special Programs Manager, Probation & Parole

“Let me add my thanks to the recognition – on your extraordinary help with the training. I was excited about the possibility of both of you teaming up together again to do this training, and was very pleased to hear about the terrific job you did in providing agents with officer safety. Everyone involved appreciated your commitment of time and talent to this endeavor.” Dennis A. – Division Director, Adult Probation & Parole

“Great job! Thanks for taking the time to learn, teach and train in the area of officer safety. Your presentation on the Use of Force Model was clear, complete, and articulate.” Joe H. – Division Director, Juvenile Probation & Parole

“On behalf of all members of the Community-Based Supervision Initiative Committee of the US Probation Office, I would like to thank you for your time, effort, and hospitality you showed us. It was a pleasure to meet and talk with you. We discovered we have the same goals in mind. We will present these findings to our Chief and Deputy Chief.” United States Federal Probation

“The feedback I am hearing from those in attendance is outstanding! The information and skill training you provide appears to make our agents feel both aware of safety issues and more confident in their ability to manage tough situations. The staff who have worked with you think most highly of your work. The follow-through you provide, in terms of knowledge and skills mastered, is also appreciated as our department moves forward in this effort.” Joan F. – Director, Community Corrections
